Add a recorder

Administrators and Operators can add recorders. Your subscription must be in its trial or active.

Have these ready:

  • what kind of recorder it is,
  • the recorder’s username and password,
  • how IC Secure will reach it (see below),
  • a name for it and the street address of the site.
IC Connect (recommended) Direct (IP)
What you need An IC Core bridge online at the site A public internet address for the recorder, with its ports forwarded on the router
Network changes None Port forwarding on the site’s router
Address you enter The recorder’s local address (for example 192.168.1.100), or find it with Scan LAN The public address or hostname

Direct only accepts public addresses. If the recorder is only reachable on the site’s own network, use a bridge.

Setting up a bridge needs an Administrator. Operators can add recorders by Direct (IP), or behind a bridge that is already set up.

  1. Open Devices (or Cameras & Recorders) and select Add recorder or camera (or Add recorder).

  2. Type: choose what you’re adding.

Choice For Default ports (HTTP / RTSP)
IC Secure (VMS) IC Secure recorders 3443 (HTTPS) / 3454
IC Core IC Realtime recorders connected through an IC Core bridge 80 / 554
ONVIF Other standard (ONVIF) recorders and cameras 80 / 554

Adding one camera with its own SD card, without a recorder? Tick Single IP camera (no recorder).

  3. Connect: choose IC Connect and pick the site’s bridge, or choose Direct (IP).

  4. Sign in:

    • With IC Connect, select Scan LAN and click the recorder in the results to fill in its address. If it’s on a different part of the network, use Scan a specific subnet….
    • With Direct, enter the public Host or IP, then select Test connection.
    • If the recorder doesn’t use the default ports, select Change ports….
    • Enter the recorder’s Username and Password.
  5. Details: enter a Name (for example “Main St front office”) and the Address. The address sets the recorder’s time zone.

  6. Review: check everything. Under Events to receive, choose which kinds of events it sends. Plain Motion is off by default because it’s noisy. Then select Register.

The recorder’s cameras are found automatically within a minute. They appear on its card on the Devices page, and in Live View.

  • In a Multi-site account, edit the site and tick the recorder under Recorders at this store.
  • Select Test Connection on the recorder’s card any time to check it.
  • If cameras are missing, open More actions on the card and select Rediscover channels.
  • The gear button opens the recorder’s settings: name, address, time zone and Event subscriptions.
Message What to do
“Reachable, but the credentials were rejected” or “Authentication failed” Check the username and password on the recorder itself.
“Could not reach the device” For Direct, check the public address and that the ports are forwarded. Otherwise, use a bridge.
“… resolves to a blocked range … Use the recorder’s public address.” You entered a local address with Direct. Use IC Connect with a bridge instead.
“If this is a single IP camera rather than a recorder…” Go back to Type and tick Single IP camera (no recorder).
“Subscription is … Update billing to continue.” Fix billing first. See plans and billing.

Administrators can open More actions on the recorder’s card and select Remove NVR. It stops recording to the cloud and leaves the list right away. For 7 days you can bring it back from Recently deleted at the bottom of the Devices page; after that, the recorder, its events and its cloud footage are removed for good.
